Secularism and the Accomodation of Muslims in Western Europe

I argue that the moderate (not radical) secularism that characterises church-state relations in Western Europe is able to accommodate the claims that Muslims are making. I evaluate the normative and practical strengths and weaknesses of such accommodation and consider how they may be improved within a general perspective of civic multiculturalism, and defended as the best direction for Western Europe against those who want to re-Christianise the continent and those who want to privatise religion further.
