Many observers have noticed that the conceptual sphere of what one used to call “South-Eastern Europe” is in a process of being enlarged and altered up to a point where a new concept, “the Black Sea region” is starting to emerge. The study is using a combination of institutional theory, political economy and comparative politics to explore the institutional arrangements and policies that may foster or impede the processes of redefinition, regionalization and economic integration of “the Black Sea region” as well as the ways the regional identity is (re) constructed and altered as a result of a variety of endogenous and external forces.
