	Bearing Witness to War	Wed, 08.02.2023	Exhibition	Katherine Younger Timothy Snyder Volodymyr Yermolenko		Bearing Witness to War Wed, 08.02.2023 Speakers: Katherine Younger Timothy Snyder Volodymyr Yermolenko Series: Exhibition With 200 projects now funded by the Documenting Ukraine program, this event was designed to highlight the work of the Documenting Ukraine grantees and present early results from the program. It was an opportunity for grantees and round table participants to network with the wider IWM community. The evening brought together a variety of interested publics, including those who influence opinion and craft policy, to foster a greater understanding of both the program and the work of those it supports, who are bearing witness to war. The evening also included the opening of a preview exhibition of art and photography from Documenting Ukraine projects. From eight artists working in different media, the exhibition is a preview of a larger exhibition to take place later in 2023. Read more

At the same time, Polish politics relies increasingly more often on visions of happy “futures past” that are deeply rooted in Polish culture and builds social resentment by accusing subsequent social groups of squandering away chances for development. Therefore, it seems necessary to ask what are these versions of Polish alternate history embedded in Polish culture and in what way do they influence contemporary politics of memory? Read more

(What is to be done?) from the perspective of European Union states: The Hijack. Europe, Belarus, and the Abduction of Roman Protasevich. The following two discussions (the first in German, the second in English) shifted the focus from the European Union to the former Soviet space in an attempt to better understand what is happening inside Belarus itself. In what way is the currently showcased performative-confession-extracted-through-torture reminiscent of Stalinist times, and in what way is there something post-modern about it? What is the relationship between insecurities about masculinity and state terror? How does a “revolution with a woman’s face” open new possibilities for politics, for rebellion against tyranny?
