IWM–Ukrainian History Global Initiative Workshop

Conferences and Workshops

Ukrainian history is central to global history, to an extent that can be difficult to bear and difficult to acknowledge. In this light, the connections between the present war and larger developments in global economy and politics are no surprise. Continuing the IWM’s collaboration with the Ukrainian History Global Initiative (UHGI)—a major scholarly endeavor to write a global history of the lands of contemporary Ukraine and the peoples who have inhabited them—this workshop brings together leading historians and literary scholars to examine the political, economic, and cultural transformations that reshaped Ukraine in the 19th and 20th centuries.

This is the second workshop in a multi-year collaboration between the IWM and UHGI, initiated by IWM Lesia Ukraїnka Permanent Fellow Timothy Snyder. Participants include Olena Betlii, Olga Gnydiuk, Yaroslav Hrytsak, Tamara Hundorova, Tomasz Kamusella, Nataliya Kibita, Volodymyr Kulikov, Dieter Pohl, Sara Silverstein, Timothy Snyder, and Yuliya Yurchenko.
