The project will provide an analysis of the imagery of the borders of Europe and its application to Ukraine. It will focus on three major chapters: a) the European imaginary about Ukraine: how various European writers and philosophers (Voltaire, Byron, Hugo, Mickiewicz, Herder, Sacher-Masoch, etc.) saw the Ukrainian lands and what consequences this produced; b) the Ukrainian imaginary about Europe: how Europe is seen by Ukrainian writers and philosophers (Kotliarevsky, Kostomarov, Drahomanov, Ukrainka, Khvyliovyi, Kosach, etc.); c) current political and cultural debates around Ukraine in Europe.

This was a Ukraine in European Dialogue Solidarity Fellowship. These fellowships are offered by invitation for notable scholars, cultural figures, and public intellectuals from Ukraine.
