Project:
The Meaning of Politics in the thought of Václav Havel and Hannah Arendt
In the research project, I will go through Hannah Arendt’s and Václav Havel writings and critically assess and compare aspects of their political thought. Particularly, I will focus on concepts of power, disobedience, political action, authenticity and ideology. Both Arendt and Havel share the view that the system of party politics and representative democracy is in a worldwide crisis and an antidote, as it were, might be found in grassroots activism by self-relating citizens who decide to take responsibility for the world they share.
