Retrofitting Totalitarianism in Russia
The current Russian regime does not fit existing definitions of totalitarianism, limited as they are. Yet Russian society behaves in ways that reproduce the behaviors of a totalitarian society. The lived experience of a Russian is, increasingly, that of a citizen of a totalitarian state. Why and how is this happening is the subject of the book I am writing.
