Project:
Pavlo Khrystiuk in Vienna
My research focuses on the Vienna years of the Ukrainian Social-Revolutionary and former member of two independent Ukrainian governments, Pavlo Khrystiuk, who wrote his „Zamitky I materialy do istorii ukrains‘koi revoliutsii“ [Notes and Materials toward a History of the Ukrainian Revolution] in Vienna. I am working on an annotated
English-language translation of this work of eyewitness-participant history. Khrystiuk worked in the Sociological Institute of Myhailo Hrushevsky in Vienna until he returned to (by then Soviet) Ukraine in 1923. After being arrested as a member of the “Union for the Liberation of Ukraine”, a fabrication of the NKVD, he died in Stalin‘s Gulag.
