25 Years of Polish Transformation: Conditions of Mainstream Journalism and Challenges for the Future
After the democratic transition of 1989 Polish media leapt into premature adulthood. Tendencies that have been developing in the West for decades occurred instantly in the Polish context. At the turn of the new era “pluralism” and “freedom” were the rallying cries of the time, yet now it is the market that holds sway. The media became either part of the entertainment machinery or vehicles for identity politics in an even more ideologically polarized society. Is there a possible alternative other than carving one’s own niche?
