Affirmative Alterity: The Indigenous Movement, Neo-Traditionalism and Anthropology
In the past fifteen years, the worldwide indigenous movement took a remarkable turn. Stressing one’s own cultural particularities has become a central narrative and argument in indigenous peoples’ fight for equal rights and recognition. A process of reconstructing tradition is going on in which historical ethnographic data receive new value. The role they play in indigenous discourse today will be explored in my research project.
