Is there a Post-Socialist Understanding of Cities? Comparing the Conceptual ‘Weight’ of Competing Urban Perspectives
This project explores the potential for a regionally-oriented comparative analysis of cities and urbanism by drawing on the links between postsocialism and postcolonialism and investigating the points of intersections between different scales of analysis. Rather than continuing to produce accounts of de-industrialization and de-Sovietization, the multiscalar “protractions“ of the city reaching beyond its administrative and wider political boundaries prompt us to investigate numerous ways in which global urbanization crystallizes in the most unexpected places.
