Oleg Tarasov

This project is dedicated to the history of the dialogue between the Russian avant-garde and the discovery, study and collection of ancient Russian paintings. The project covers a wide range of issues: from the history of the discovery of the "primitive" (icons, folk pictures, advertising, etc.) by avant-garde artists in the 1900s-10s, to the collection of old Russian icons and avant-garde art objects after World War Two. Special attention is paid to the George Costakis' collection and the aesthetic and ideological concepts that influenced scientific understanding of the theme.
