We will imminently be launching Soundings—an online audio archive to accompany the Sounds of Democracy project, with rich metadata structures that permit extensive annotation, collaborative editing, and deep and precise filtering and sorting.

Sounds of Democracy is a project of the Institute for Human Sciences (Vienna) in collaboration with the Albert Hirschman Center on Democracy, Graduate Institute (Geneva), and the Research Group on Soft Authoritarianism (University of Bremen). This blog post is a contribution by a team of linguists at the University of Bremen, namely Prof. Dr. Ingo H. Warnke and two of his doctoral students, Christian Bär as well as Hagen Steinhauer, who is also a member of the Research Group on Soft Authoritarianism, which is directed by Shalini Randeria, who holds the Excellence Chair at the University of Bremen.

The following text describes a project complementing the Sounds of Democracy podcast, that will be carried out by Prof. Dr. Ingo H. Warnke and two of his doctoral students, namely Christian Bär and Hagen Steinhauer.

Welcome to the Sounds of Democracy blog! The following blog post was written by Shalini Randeria, who is the Rector of the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna, Professor of Social Anthropology and Sociology at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva, as well as the Director of the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy at the IHEID. Furthermore, she holds the Excellence Chair at the University of Bremen, where she leads a research group on Soft Authoritarianism. She is also the host of the Democracy in Question podcast series.
