This project considers the construction of the image of the “wandering philosopher,” from the time of Skovoroda’s death and the writing of his biography to this day, also taking into account recent biographies of the philosopher, as well as research and museum exhibitions about him. The project explores the construction of places of memory, their role for society and the state, and for humanities scholars and their audience. The aim is to identify the mechanisms of constructing the image in dichotomies: own/alien, Ukrainian/Imperial (Russian), ancient/modern.
