Research Programs

The IWM's research programs invite fellows or research associates to work together on a specific subject. Our research programs follow objectives, questions, and themes consistent with the Institute's mission and history, and are led by a permanent fellow or research director.

  • Eurasia in Global Dialogue Does Europe get Russia right? Does Russia get the world right?
  • Europe’s Futures - Ideas for Action Europe finds itself confronted with challenges of a magnitude it has not experienced since the crises of the 1930s.
  • Forced Migration Research Fellowship Europe-Asia Research Platform on Forced Migration
  • Jan Patočka Research Program The oldest research focus at the Institute: The Jan Patočka Archive as a place for philosophical reflections on Europe
  • Ukraine in European Dialogue A program dedicated to enabling sustained contact and exchange between scholars, public intellectuals, journalists, activists and policymakers from Ukraine and the rest of Europe.
  • United History – Divided Europe Seeking to overcome divisions among national historiographies and between East and West through scholarly history conceived in a novel way.
  • Woman without a Name: Gender Identity in Sacrificial Stories Looking at the human experience of sacrifice through difference disciplines: phenomenology, existentialism, psychoanalysis, and gender studies.
