Central Europe on the Way to Democracy

It seems that the biggest question and challenge, especially for the coming years, is posed by the need for strong political coalitions: Where and how can they be formed? What can they build on, while a political life is still in the making in the newly born democracies in Eastern Europe? In a time, when many parties are falling apart, when some fully disappear and new political powers rise. All this is a process that will last a couple of years. The main obstacle will be that this process has to take place within the next two, three years, when all of these countries will first and foremost need strong governments in order to secure the economic transition. In view of this difficult economic situation it will be of utmost importance that these countries have strong governments which are at the same time good governments.
