I am translating the key political work by Benjamin Constant, Principes de politique, in the 1806 manuscript version edited by Etienne Hofmann (Droz, Genève, 507 pages). This version is longer and more audacious then the version finally published in 1815. Constant defines here his conception of ‘liberty’, the ‘limits of sovereignty’ and the ‘foundations of modern liberal state’. Principes de politique have never been translated into Czech.
