Sri Lanka’s emergence from a protracted separatist war (1983–2009) between the Sri Lankan army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is a site on which models of transitional justice, ‘catch-up’ development, institutional re-building and security sector reform have marshalled fierce debate and geographies of instability. Using postcolonial, feminist and cultural studies perspectives, I ask how these blueprints are being tried and tested in Sri Lanka.
