Educational policies and Communist propaganda targeting children are the key for understanding Soviet society. What did the ideal of a Soviet child in the 1930s look like according to the official ideology? How was it implemented in the combination of education, work and leisure which made up the children’s everyday life? The research project seeks to answer these questions by analysing children’s literature and periodicals as well as public speeches of Communist, Comsomol and Soviet Pioneer leaders of the time.
