In historical scholarship on the Holocaust in Hungary, there is an almost complete silence or lack of memory regarding the lived history of the “Jewish” or ghetto houses in Budapest that existed between June 24 and December 1, 1944. My project looks more closely at the inhabitants of these buildings, with a focus on oral accounts and the aim of learning more about the changing living conditions in the residential buildings and the wider urban and social environments.

This fellowship is a continuation of the residency in spring of 2020 that had to be interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
