For the past 20 years, anti-democratic transnational movements against women’s rights and gender equality have gained traction across Europe. The result is that huge numbers of people are denied basic human rights and equality. The role of investigative journalism is extremely important in investigating these attacks and understanding the funding and logic behind them. A number of openDemocracy’s investigations have shown that the backlash against universal human rights in Europe is well organized and extensively funded by transnational actors, including the US. Journalistic investigations have revealed just how much American cash is fueling anti-gender campaigns in Europe. Tatev Hovhannisyan's project will continue to look closely at the backlash actors in Europe and investigate the flow of "dark money" into groups opposing equal rights.
