Culture wars, once a specifically American phenomenon, have in recent times gone global. Mineva’s research project is focused on this globalization process of the culture wars, aiming to investigate how they became viral, producing locally global moral panics. She focuses her research on three different but intersecting aspects––local actors, political imagination in the peripheries and social media infrastructure. Culture wars, in Mineva’s view, are not forms of distraction from serious political issues, but narratives for popular engagement with them.
