Migration has long been a topic of discussion in political discourse, and experiences of racism are part of the everyday life of migrant workers in Germany. Manuela Bojadžijev’s research focuses on the emerging relationship between labor mobility and racism in the context of geopolitical industrial policy. In the current global climate of multiple crises and multipolar realignments, there is an increasing call for the regionalization of production. In response to these developments, governments and the EU Commission are considering proposals for a new industrial policy, with the declared aim of strengthening their geopolitical capacity to act in regard to China, Russia, and, more recently, the US. One particular focus of the various support measures is the production of key digital technologies (semiconductors, batteries, and electric cars). It seems that, along with efforts to reduce the risks associated with global supply chains and to develop trade relations with “trusted partners,” we are witnessing a significant shift in globalization. However, the issues of labor migration and racism, which have received limited attention in this context, are not being adequately addressed.
