The project focuses on the agendas and practices of European humanitarian actors in the context of the destructive First World War and at the time of the collapse of European Empires. It specifically aims to trace aid activities driven by European actors, particularly the Austrian Red Cross, in the Austro-Hungarian provinces of Transylvania and Bukovina. Further, it seeks to explore these European humanitarian actors’ interactions with Romania’s nation-building architects in the post-Unification period.
