The Future of the Euro

Panels and Discussions

As a guest of the Institute for Human Sciences and its Political Salon US financier and philanthropist George Soros discussed the future of the Euro with invited representatives of Austrian public life. In his introductory statement he presented his vision of how the European financial crisis can be solved. His considerations were commented by Austrian Minister of Finance Maria Fekter and subsequently discussed with the audience.

The statement was largely based on Mr. Soros’ article The tragedy of the European Union and how to resolve it, where he states: “In my judgment the best course of action is to persuade Germany to choose between becoming a more benevolent hegemon or leaving the euro. In other words, Germany must lead or leave.”
