Memorialization of War: A Podcast Exploring Ukraine’s New Culture of Remembrance

Memorialization of War is a series of journalistic podcasts that document, interpret, and reinterpret the formation of Ukraine’s culture of remembrance during Russia’s war against Ukraine. Each episode is not merely a record of an event or phenomenon, but an attempt to understand the new challenges that Ukrainian society faces when it comes to memory, loss, dignity, and official commemoration policies.

The project is a living chronicle in which the voices of experts, the families of the fallen, veterans, civic actors, and researchers appear side by side. It is both an archive and a tool for public dialogue.

As Ukraine incurs losses of such scale for the first time in its modern history, it faces the urgent need to form a new culture of commemoration. Many of the systemic rituals, narratives, and structures that would correspond to the realities of the war do not yet exist at state level. Civil society is provoking a public dialogue, and this podcast is documenting these changes.
