- DisplacedDuring her Lesia Ukraїnka Senior Visiting Fellowship at the IWM, Olesya Khromeychuk will aim to rethink the concept of displacement not as a story of loss and defeat, but as a condition that has, paradoxically, contributed to the forging of Ukraine as a resilient political nation.
- Staging the Border: The Symbolic Creation of the Danube Monarchy in Southeastern Europe before 1791Borders and border regions have attracted intensified scholarly interest, shaped by historiographical developments and 20th-century conflicts. This project examines how the European–Ottoman frontier in the early modern Balkans was perceived, visualized, and staged.
- ‘According to the Nature of That Race’: The Persecution and Murder of Europe’s Roma and Sinti, 1933-1945Michael Stewart is currently completing a comprehensive history of the persecution of Europe’s Romany peoples from 1933-1945 and the campaigns for restitution and acknowledgement which followed.

For four decades, the Institute has promoted intellectual exchange across disciplines, between academia and society, and among regions of the world. It hosts more than a hundred fellows each year, organizes public exchanges, and publishes books, articles, and digital fora.
