At the IWM, Maciej Kisilowski will build on his recently published co-edited book, Let’s Agree on Poland: A Case Study in Strategic Constitutional Design (Oxford University Press, 2025), to examine revolutionary conservatism as a coherent global ideological rival to liberal democracy. His project challenges dominant “supply-side” theories that trace right-wing authoritarian success to “populist” manipulation, the digital media environment, or liberal missteps. Just as liberals once had to confront the intrinsic attraction of communism, today’s democrats must face the mass appeal of revolutionary conservatism in order to devise effective strategies for a liberal counterrevolution.
