The large number of highly publicized violent incidents in West Bengal during the last decade of the Left Government‘s rule has attracted a lot of academic attention. Many social scientists have concluded that the Left Government‘s forced land acquisition policy, aimed at promoting rapid industrialization, is the main cause for the violence. The main objective of my research is to empirically determine whether there is a systematic correlation between land redistribution outcome and violence between 1995 and 2008.
