The project is a comparative study of the discourse on Christian architecture in late-Soviet Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Lviv. By analyzing guidebooks, archives, church periodicals, materials of the Preservation and 'Knowledge' societies, as well as collecting interviews, the project traces church preservation discourse and its relations with lived religion between the late 1960s and mid 1980s. By doing so, it aims to answer how preservation changed the propaganda of atheism and shaped the religious revival of the 1980s, and what implications it had for Ukrainian Soviet patriotic upbringing.
