In the second event of the series “Geopolitical Talks” IWM Permanent Fellow Ivan Krastev talked with Ahmet Davutoğlu, former Prime Minister of Turkey (2014-2016), about the current geopolitical challenges on national, regional and international level.

 

Ahmet Davutoğlu is a Turkish politician, diplomat and academic. He is the author of the book “Strategic Depth: Turkey’s international position”. The book outlines a strategy that transforms Turkey into the World power by multidimensional foreign policy with a special emphasis to deepen relations with key countries in Eurasia.

Prof. Davutoğlu was appointed as Ambassador and Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister between November 2002 and May 2009. As Foreign Minister of Turkey, he initiated the policy of “zero Problems with neighboring countries” and played an active role in peace making and mediation efforts to overcome conflicts in the Middle East, Balkans, Caucasia, Africa, and Central Asia. Professor Davutoğlu was on the Top 100 Global Thinkers by Foreign Policy magazine in 2010 (7th), 2011 and 2012.  In 2012, he was named as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by Time magazine. He served as the Prime Minister of the 62nd, 63rd and 64th Governments of the Republic of Turkey from August 29, 2014 to May 22, 2016. He is fluent in English, Arabic and German.
