The Documenting Ukraine program is glad to launch the 2025 application cycle. Ukrainian academics, creative professionals and public intellectuals are welcome to apply for one-time 5000 EUR grants for projects documenting the experience of the full-scale Russo-Ukrainian war or providing intellectual or artistic reflections on these events. We are accepting applications until 20 July 2025.
Since March 2022, Documenting Ukraine has supported more than 400 projects by Ukrainian filmmakers, scholars, journalists, archivists and librarians, writers and poets, artists and photographers. Aiming to build a transdisciplinary archive, Documenting Ukraine prioritizes elevating Ukrainian intellectual contributions and sharing the nation's wartime experiences with a global audience.
Applications are accepted via the IWM’s online application form, which can be found by the following link. The document package consists of:
• CV
• Letter of motivation that addresses the project’s significance and how it relates to the mission of Documenting Ukraine (1-2 pages)
• Project description including planned activities, information about who will be carrying out the project and their qualifications, and the desired outcome (1-3 pages)
• Contact details of one reference person who is familiar with your work and can speak to its suitability for Documenting Ukraine
Please note that the application package should be compiled into a single PDF.
People who have previously received support from Documenting Ukraine are also welcome to apply for this application cycle, either with new projects or continuations of previous work. Repeat funding is available only for people and organizations that have previously received one grant. Please note that if you are applying for a repeat grant, your application should reflect how the project progressed and how it benefitted from the IWM’s support.

The application deadline for this grant round is 20 July 2025 at 23:59 Vienna time (UTC+1:00). The decisions will be communicated to the participants by early November 2025.
