Prevalence of Anxiety and Depression Symptoms among Students in Relation to Local Security Conditions

This project aims to assess anxiety and depression levels among higher education students in the frontline city of Zaporizhzhia, and to compare them with cohorts from relatively safe Chernivtsi (on the Romanian border), as well as internally displaced students across Ukraine and those currently abroad. We surveyed 613 participants via validated Ukrainian versions of the GAD-7 and PHQ-9 questionnaires administered online. The GAD-7 was selected for its strong cultural adaptation and proven diagnostic value, while the PHQ-9 is widely used in studies on depression and burnout. To ensure the inclusion of the target population, participation was organized with administrative support from the Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University and the Bukovinian State Medical University, through the use of personalized survey links. The sample includes 183 respondents from Zaporizhzhia, 211 from Chernivtsi, 187 displaced within Ukraine, and 30 abroad. Analysis of the data is ongoing.
