Shattered Ice is a research-based short fiction project exploring the invisible psychological dimension of the war in Ukraine—the depression, PTSD, and emotional collapse experienced by young women. The film follows a 30-year-old protagonist who is navigating severe war-related depression and Ukraine’s fragile mental health system, blending dark humor with intimate realism.
The grant will be used to conduct a dedicated documentation phase in Kyiv. This will involve interviews both with women undergoing therapy for trauma-related conditions and with practicing psychotherapists. The project producer, Anna Kapustina, and the project director, Lesia Diak, will use the material to inform the script and ensure ethical and emotional accuracy.
The collected testimonies will shape the creative foundation of the film and contribute to a broader cultural record of the war’s psychological aftermath, helping destigmatize mental health struggles among Ukrainian women and offering insight into a critical yet overlooked front of resilience.
