Zoya Zvynyatskivska’s archival project aims to preserve an important sociocultural phenomenon that has appeared in Ukraine under martial law: original, locally produced T-shirt prints depicting important social themes. Since the first days of the full-scale invasion, T-shirts have served as a form of folk chronicle, offering a creative interpretation of the timeline of the war: important events and related memes; prevailing public sentiment; the strengthening of the Ukrainian armed forces; and social life during the war.
The project involves creating a digital archive in Ukrainian and English, which will contain images and descriptions of T-shirts with relevant prints. Each image will be accompanied by information and/or links to the context: the event, meme, or occasion that inspired the creation of this print.
Zvynyatskivska will use these materials, with links to the archive, for her work on one of the volumes of The History of Ukrainian Fashion, specifically the section titled “Ukrainian Fashion: Martial Law.”
