From Kyiv to Robotyne: in Search of War

The project represents the personal experience of a professional historian who joined the Ukrainian army in Kyiv in February 2022. It is the perspective of an ordinary soldier who possesses the necessary skills to record events within the military as accurately and candidly as possible, as a direct participant.  Volodymyr Mylko has documented several months of his service in the 23rd Separate Rifle Battalion, and later in the newly formed 47th Battalion (subsequently a separate mechanized brigade). Among other topics, he covers Kyiv’s preparations for defense, his training in Ukraine and abroad, the preparations for the Zaporizhzhia counteroffensive in 2023 and his direct participation in it, the two serious injuries he received, the amputation of one of his arms, and his subsequent treatment and rehabilitation.

Mylko plans to prepare a book that will reflect the events of 2022–2024 in the form of a historical source with real events, real military personnel (some of whom have already died in battle), and dialogues.
