The book Towards the Sun: Adaptation after Returning from Captivity focuses on the author’s profound journey of rehabilitation and post-traumatic growth after a year in Russian captivity. The project chronicles his life after liberation, detailing the personal challenges he faced during his physical and psychological recovery. It is an honest story of a struggle with the psychological aftermath of torture and confinement, yet one that ultimately transforms trauma into a new mission: psychological education, work with fellow veterans and survivors of captivity through the peer-to-peer approach, and establishing a support community for families of POWs and MIAs. The book integrates the narratives of other servicemen who have survived Russian captivity, creating a broad panorama of their shared experience in confinement and the diverse adaptation paths they forged upon their return. This collection of voices provides an essential roadmap for recovery and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
