Vulnerable: Male Artists during Russo-Ukrainian War

This project will be the first to document the vulnerable and often invisible status of Ukrainian male artists during the full-scale war. While public attention has focused on women’s responses, this research examines how male artists navigate constrained mobility, legal uncertainty, and internal exile. It combines recorded interviews, analysis of artistic practices, and a discursive exhibition, engaging both male and female voices to reflect on war, embodiment, and silence. The project is structured into four phases: methodology development, interview-based fieldwork, curatorial exhibition, and publication. Outcomes include a digital archive, exhibition documentation, and at least one peer-reviewed academic article. By critically engaging with narratives of withdrawal, fragility, and resistance, this project expands how war is remembered and represented beyond heroism, preserving marginal and complex experiences for future historical and artistic reflection.
