Tell Me a Fairytale

Tell Me a Fairytale is a short creative documentary about love, intimacy, and emotional fragility during wartime. The film centers on the relationship between Pavlo, a young openly gay Ukrainian soldier and activist, and his partner Vlad. Their story unfolds on two levels: the public narrative, which has turned them into a symbol of queer resistance during Russia’s full-scale invasion, and the private reality—messy, painful, and deeply human.

Through this film, Diana Anikieieva aims to document not only a love story, but also a deeper emotional truth about what it means to stay vulnerable in a system that demands performance, control, and survival. Tell Me a Fairytale contributes to preserving the human experience of war in Ukraine, seen through the lens of queer visibility, personal contradiction, and emotional intimacy.
