The Russian war against Ukraine has transformed Ukrainian society. Yet systematic comparisons that reveal how the attitudes and values of Ukrainians have changed, especially in the European context, remain outdated. The European Social Survey (ESS) offers a unique opportunity to study these transformations. The ESS is an academically driven, cross-national survey conducted every two years across Europe through face-to-face interviews with newly selected, representative samples. Ukraine last participated in the ESS in 2013, just before the start of the war in 2014, and rejoined in 2022—mere weeks before the full-scale invasion. A new wave of data collection is currently underway. The goal of our project is to document and visualize key social changes in Ukraine through comparative statistical summaries based on the ESS. There is strong international academic interest in such reports, as they enable deeper and more comprehensive study of Ukraine.
