Recovery is a feature documentary about the transformation of Ukraine on both physical and metaphysical levels, showcased through rebuilding initiatives ranging from grassroots volunteer efforts to international policymaking. The project is co-directed by Roman Bondarchuk and Vadym Ilkov, both of whom also serve as cinematographers (alongside cinematographer Viacheslav Tsvietkov) and editors.
The film aims to provide both an intellectual reflection and artistic interpretation of the phenomena underlying Ukraine’s existence—where rebuilding occurs concurrently with destruction. It also seeks to explore the broader context as a way of understanding how Ukraine will eventually evolve and transform.
