Zatyshok against the War: Stories of Things, Pets and Plants that Ukrainians Loved but Were Forced to Leave

Historically Ukrainians have believed that their happiness depends on zatyshok (затишок). This can be translated as coziness in English, hygge in Danish or Gemütlichkeit in German.
The first priority of the Ukrainian people was, of course, to preserve their lives during the Russian full-scale invasion. However, a lot of people were frustrated because they had to abandon their zatyshok, which many of them had built all their lives. For them, leaving this meant destruction of their whole lives. Very often, people decided to stay at home under Russian missiles, bullets and shells. They decided to protect something more than just their walls or home furniture: their zatyshok. They believe that it can maintain their happiness or somehow even stop the Russian invasion.
Petro Yatsenko’s book presents a collection of stories about house pets, plants, and memorable or sentimental things in which the souls of our homes can survive.
