Ukrainian Heritage Preservationists Amid Russian Military Aggression: Professional Experiences, Personal Stories, and Visions for the Future

Ukrainian heritage specialists, often at risk to their own lives and health, are engaged in evacuating collections, dealing with the consequences of damage to buildings, and ensuring the functioning of institutions entrusted to them under conditions of prolonged power system failures and other collapses in life support. Preserving the thoughts and voices of these people and their vision of the situation is extremely valuable not only from the perspective of documenting the events of the Russo-Ukrainian War but also for the further development of more effective ways to secure humanity’s heritage in any extreme conditions (not necessarily military). Finally, their own experience of surviving the war can be an important source of inspiration when in times of hardship they must not only survive and secure their families but also fulfil their professional duty, preserving historical and cultural monuments for future generations.
