The At Zero project straddles the line between the preservation and research of photography (visual materials). The project is a starting point for rethinking Ukrainian photo archives; researching what could not be preserved during colonial rule and wars; and studying the processes of forming a new visual archive that could become the basis of the country's contemporary history.
Kateryna Radchenko plans to focus on two components during her research: 1) studying the processes of the destruction of the country’s photo archives before 1991 and analyzing their replacement with new materials and narratives; 2) researching the process of forming a new, alternative photo archive during the ongoing war. This involves analyzing vernacular photography, satellite images, and videos from drones and GoPro cameras—collecting and studying visual materials created on the frontline and in the grey zone.
