Mother’s Day is a project to create a book of essays on the experience of motherhood in Ukraine during Russia’s full-scale invasion. The project examines both private and structural aspects of motherhood, paying close attention to how the war is transforming the emotional, cultural, and social dimensions of motherhood. It aims to reflect on how women in Ukraine live, care, and change in the face of war.
The book will combine several narrative methods: personal testimony, autofiction, documentary reporting, and cultural critique. As the author, Iryna Korniienko will draw on her own wartime experience as a new mother, while also documenting the voices of others, integrating interviews with women, and referencing expert commentary when relevant. The hybrid nature of the book—literary and journalistic, personal, and analytical—will make it accessible and resonant for a broad audience.
