Ruskaya Vesna (Russian Spring)

The Russkaya Vesna (Russian Spring) digital photo album and collection of essays aims to revisit the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in spring 2014 through photographic and textual documentation.

It will cover the period of April–May 2014, based on the author’s photographs and written reporting from Kharkiv, Donetsk, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and Odesa.

The album will capture the transformation from local unrest to open warfare, portraying both the events and the people caught in the conflict. It will include pivotal moments such as the seizure of government buildings, the emergence of local resistance, the actions of Russian special forces, scenes from pro-Ukrainian rallies, the formation of the Donbas battalion, and the funeral of Volodymyr Rybak, a murdered member of the Horlivka city council.

A selection of these materials will form a 50–60 page bilingual (Ukrainian and English) digital publication.
