Józef Tischner Fellowships for Polish and Polish-American Scholars

Józef Tischner (1931–2000), one of the most influential Polish philosophers of the 20th century and the first chaplain of Solidarność, was founding president of the IWM. In his memory, the Józef Tischner Fellowships have been awarded to junior researchers from Poland and young Polish-American scholars since 2003. The program is made possible by an endowment established with grants from Pope John Paul II, the Foundation Open Society Institute, and the Kosciuszko Foundation (New York). The six-month fellowships are open to candidates from all disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.

Józef Tischner (1931–2000), einer der einflussreichen polnischen Philosophen des 20. Jahrhunderts und der erste Seelsorger der Solidarność, war Gründungspräsident des IWM. In seinem Andenken werden seit 2003 die Józef Tischner Stipendien für jeweils sechs Monate an polnische und polnischamerikanische Nachwuchswissenschaftler/ innen verliehen. Das Stipendienprogramm wird durch einen von Papst Johannes Paul II., die Stiftung Open Society Institute und die Kosciuszko Foundation (New York) gemeinsam dotierten Fonds ermöglicht. Das Programm ist offen für Studierende aller Fächer der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften.
