Project:
Soviet Politics of Memory about the Holocaust in Lviv (1944-1967)
This project focuses on controversial Soviet policy. On the one hand, after the Nazi occupation Soviet authorities investigated the crimes committed by Nazis in Lviv. Soviet writers created literature describing the tragic fate of Jews in Lviv during the Nazi occupation. On the other hand, Communists suppressed the civic commemoration of the Holocaust, erased the national character of this tragedy in public discussion, and at the same time deliberately instrumentalized the Holocaust in their own propaganda against the political enemies of the USSR.
