Project:
The Theological and Philosophical Concept of Movement in the Teaching of St. Maximus the Confessor
My goal is to explore the philosophic concept of movement of created beings towards God. The concept of creaturely mutability is connected with Maximus’ concept of logoi, teaching on the Incarnation of Christ and eschatology. Of special concern is movement’s existential dimension, understood as human striving to God and God–human reciprocity. Modern existential and phenomenologist thinkers, such as John Zizioulas, Emmanuel Levinas, Christos Yannaras and John Manoussakis, will be interlocutors, and their ideas hermeneutic clues to Maximus’ concept of motion.
