Project:
Features of Social Stratification of the Austrian and Russian Society:
Discursive-Symbolic Aspects
Social stratification exists in every society, regardless of its level of development. This project deals with the discursive-symbolic aspects of stratification, i.e. with the position of groups in the social hierarchy of prestige, in two different European countries, Austria and Russia. Based on a content analysis of articles in Austrian newspapers and on a recent Russian study, the project aims to compare the symbolic status of certain social groups, such as health professionals, teachers or soldiers, in these two countries.
